Miriam Stingl – Texas & Florida

Texas & Florida

4 years ago I would never thought, that I would be able to say that I received my Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Management while playing collegiate volleyball in the USA. This experience is unreal and I am beyond grateful for this amazing opportunity. I want to thank Sandra Brunke with all my heart for all the support, help and kindness she provided for me throughout the last couple of years. She has been amazing from the moment she recruited me.

My journey in the US started at Lee College, a junior college in Texas. My first two years I spent there. At the beginning it was hard to adjust and overcome cultural barriers, but pretty soon I found my place. I found some friends for life and had great support by coaches, professors and teammates.

After my sophomore year I transferred to the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. Florida is a beautiful state and I couldn’t be more happy that I decided to commit to this school. My past two years were amazing and I formed even more new long-lasting friendships and collected some incredible memories.

My journey overall had many ups and downs and there were times, where I was struggling and was challenged. However, this was the best experience I could ask for and I would do it all over again. Living, studying and playing the sport you love in a different country is a dream come true for me. I would recommend this to anyone because it helps you not only to learn a new language and culture, but also forms you as a person significantly and it is something no one can ever take away from you.

I want to thank everyone that made this possible, especially VolleyUSA, my coaches and my parents and everyone that was involved in my journey. I am beyond grateful for these past 4 years. Due to Covid19 I was granted a fifth year of eligibility, which gives me another year to compete in the sport I’m passionate about and continue my education in the US.

I recently committed to FDU in New Jersey, where I will pursue my MBA and I am so excited for this new experience. After these 4 years in the US, I can say that I found a home away from home and I can see myself having a future here. If you have the opportunity to receive an athletic scholarship in the US with VolleyUSA, go for it, you won’t regret it!
